About a year ago my 5 year old nephew started watching the movie Turbo. For those of you that don’t know what this is, it’s a cartoon about a snail that has lightning speed and lives with a Mexican food truck owner. Nevertheless my nephew eventually started speaking Spanish after watching the movie over and over again. Thereafter, every time I was in the kitchen he’d come to me and ask if I’m making tacos. Disappointed in my response he tried again each time he saw me cooking. One day I decided to surprise him with tacos, he loved the process of making the tacos but unfortunately he didn’t want to eat it. Thankfully everyone else did and I hope you all will enjoy it too!
Ingredients
- 1 kg steak or steak mince (if you’re using a fillet or minute steak cut into cubes)
- 1 onion sliced into rings
- 1 large tomato grated
- 1 habanero chilli sliced ( remove seeds)
- 1 green chilli sliced (remove seeds)
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 5 peppadews roughly chopped
- ½ tsp red chilli powder
- 2 tablespoon peppadew sauce
- Salt A/R
- Olive oil A/R
- Old el Paso Tacos
- Cheese
- Old el Paso Salsa
- lettuce
Method
- Heat up some olive oil in a pan and sauté the onion , chillies and cumin until soft
- Add the peppadews and steak and let it cook until the water from the steak has evaporated
- Add in your tomatoes, red chilli powder, peppadew sauce and salt for taste. Cook until the sauce thickens
- Shred your lettuce and grate some cheese and set aside
- Warm your tacos up in the oven for about 5 minutes
- Serve with salsa and jalapeños
I love to serve my tacos buffet style, that way your guests can enjoy making their own combinations to their liking! It’s a great way to spice up your weekly menu and adds an element of fun to the dinner table.
